Why Dassault Systems invent solidworks when its have best 3d CAD software like catia?

 CATIA and Solidworks both are powerful software but both have different expertise to deal with complex design that's why dassault systems have both software to stand at top in global  market. 

-> CATIA was released in 1977 and is now owned by dassault systems. It is a product lifecycle management (PLM) software which means that it manages data during product development. It improves productivity and workflow, as usually many people work on same project.

CATIA is Powerful 3D modeling software and dominating in Automotive, Aerospace and Aeronautics.

->SolidWorks is also owned by dessault systems, launched in 1995. it is basically Parametric 3D modeling software, means by changing dimension value whole design got changed. 

Solidworks have also powerful tools which increase ability to draw using either parts or assemblies, rendering and simulation and others.

Solidworks have friendly user interface and commands to use easily. SolidWorks is very popular in industrial and products design, machinery, education, railways and medical industries.

As per above given details we can conclude, CATIA is mainly using for complex design where we need to use surfacing work. Example- Automotive, aerospace etc.

on the other hand, Solidworks have ability to work with part level design, assembly and development.

What is mean of "Surface" in design (CATIA, Solidworks and NX)

A surface is a infinity thin shape which we can  also defined as zero thickness shape. Creating or designing in Surfaces help us in complex or even relatively simple shapes that a solid model would have a different for creating.Surfacing work define these complex shapes like the exterior and interior of a car, an exterior of a aircraft or various products that you may have in your home and may be at your surroundings.Surfacing work can be done in any software but every software have different capabilities to perform this powerful process.

How to find CATIA file version without open CATIA.

Hello Friends,

In daily life when we use CATIA as professional or student, we have to open file from clients or from others then many time we got a error at time of opening CATIA file is "Wrong Application Level".

This error reports comes because of software version difference means CATIA software can open lower version's file in newer/upgraded version software but can't open newer version's file in lower version software without using Add-in for down-gradable.

Ex:-

If you have file of CATIA V5- R2016 (V5R26) then you can open this file in CATIA V5-R2017 (V5R27) but you can't open it in CATIA V5- R2015 (V5R25)

Question:- we are not able to open it then how we can find the version of any file to get suitable version of software to open and work??

Answer:- For checking version follow some steps then we can check file version without opening it.

Step-1:-  We have this file to check its version.

Right Click on CATIA v5 File and Open into Notepad.

Step 2:-  Find "CATIAV5" in opened Notepad File.

And Get required Result. Check in Image-

How to Increase quality of Transparency in CATIA??

In CATIA, We have setting for change system as per your requirement where we get one more option which is Change of quality of transparency in CATIA.

Steps for change Setting:-

Step 1:- Go in Tools and select "Options"

Step 2:-  Go on- General-> Display->  Performance-> Transparency Quality 

Step 3:- Select  "High" for change quality. 

Select Ok to Save Setting.

How to write Text in CATIA??

In CATIA, For texting in CATIA file, we have to do some operations.

1:- Open CATIA Drawing and write text in it.

2:- Save it as  "DXF" format.

3:- Open DXF file which you just saved. And Copy Text from DXF file.

4:- Paste copied text in sketch of part file where you want to use it.

5:- Do pad/Pocket as per your requirement.

Generate CATPart from CATProduct in CATIA.

In CATIA, we can Generate Part (Single Part) from Product.

For creating part file, just follow simple steps to create.

Step 1:- Open CATproduct ( product/Assembly file) first.

Step 2:- Go on Tools and select " Generate CATPart from Product"

Step 3:- Select Assembly or sub-assembly which you want generate as a part from product.

Step 4:- There is another option in which we have option for merging all bodies of each part in one body.
In general case, we don't select this option.

Step 5-  Just press ok...Then it will create a part from product which you can save.

How to Get Update error when sketch is under constrained??

In CATIA, When we working in sketcher workbench and many time don't create or forget to create fully constrained but its too important to have fully constrained sketch so we can change settings which shows an error for sketch under constrained.

Steps for change setting:-

Step 1:- Go on tools and select options.

Step 2:- Go in "Mechanical Design" Select "Sketcher"

              Check/Select option on " Generate update errors when the sketch is under- constrained"

Select Ok to save setting.

-> From now, When you will exit from sketcher without fully constrained, it will an error for under-constrained.

How to use CGR mode for large assembly visualization in CATIA

Hello Friends,
Welcome to "Design Tech Academy".
In this post, i will tell you setting to change Design mode to CGR mode for large assembly for fast process or fast loading.

Many time we face problem with large assembly which takes time for loading but we don't require to load all parts of assembly so we have a good option for load only selected parts as per your need in CGR mode.
*CGR Mode:- Catia Graphical Representation
Its a representation method without loading parts (visual only)

Follow simple step to change settings:-

1st:- Tools -> Options

2nd:- Infrastructure -> Product structure -> Cgr management -> General
Check (Select) highlighted option for start cgr mode for large assemblies.
Select Ok for save updated settings.

How to stop auto synchronize all external links when updating in CATIA

Hello Friends,
Welcome to "Design tech Academy".

In this post i will try to share about changing Synchronize settings in CATIA.
Many time we face problem with CATIA when we open part but due to some links update it auto synchronize and become red till full update.

So it can be change by some simple steps:-

1st- Tools-> Options.

2nd- Infrastructure -> Part Infrastructure-> General -> Update.

Uncheck highlighted below option from dialog box and select ok to save updated settings.

How to change updating (Automatic/ Manual) in CATIA and stop update at first error

Welcome to "Design Tech Academy".

In this topic, we will change the settings for updating parts (Automatic/Manual) in CATIA and stop updating at first error.

Follow simple steps for change setting:-

Step1st:- Tools-> Option

Step2nd:- Infrastructure -> Part infrastructure -> General.

For update setting:- Select from Automatic or Manual for update.

For stop at error:- Check the option (underline option) for stop at first error at the time of error.

Select OK for save changes.

CATIA Setting:- How to add Shortcut key on Commands (Shortcut for Hide/Show command)

Hello friends,
When we use CATIA, at that time we require lot of commands (tools) to make our design and for fast process we require some shortcuts for commands which helps to work fast on CATIA.

In this Post, i will share the method to add shortcut of any command in CATIA and for example we will add a shortcut for Hide/Show command.

"For hide and show we require Right click then we select Hide/Show which time taking" so we will add shortcut for it.

Follow Some simple steps to add shortcuts:-

1st- Tools-> Customize






2nd- In Customize-> Commands



3rd- Select command from Right side and Categories from Left side.


4th- After selection of command, Click on "Show Properties".

5th-  Select "Accelerator" And fill Command name/Press Key for Shortcut.

Ex- "Space" Type by manully for space key from keyboard.
You can select "H" or other also as per your need.



For Reset, Press Reset.

And for save Change, just close .

CATIA Setting:- How to add Design module in workbench

Hello Friends,
In this post, we will learn, How to add Design module (Part Design, G. Surface....Assembly) in Workbench for easy to switching between them.
As like shown in Below attached pic.

Follow Some simple steps:-

1st- Go in Tool-> Customize........

OR

Right Click on Status bar area and select from Dialog Box.

2st:- Go at Start Menu and Add Favorites Design Mode from Available List.

For Adding-

Select Mode and Press -> 

For Remove 

Select Mode and Press <- 

For Save Updated Setting Press Cancel.
